Pride Weekend

Pride Weekend 2011

Ralph Carmona shares a laugh with a Pride participant. One of the things I love best about Portland is its diversity. People of many races, religions, and sexual orientations have made their homes here and bring their talents and energies to build a stronger community. I was proud to be able to support Maine’s GLBT communities at Pride Weekend, and had a terrific time meeting people.

Old Port Festival

Memorial Day Parade

Listening to Portlanders is one of the things that convinced me to run for mayor. (James Romer photo)

Portland’s  Old Port Festival brought me the chance to do one of the things I love best — meeting Portland people. Business owners, parents, veterans, seniors — they are all part of the fabric of this wonderful city, and it’s important to me to listen to their concerns.

In honor of Memorial Day, I was proud to join a crowd of Portlanders in giving thanks for the sacrifices of those who have given their lives in our nation’s service, and particularly honored and humbled by the presence of many Portland veterans.

Of course, not all of those I met were veterans — or even old enough to vote!
