Platform
Portland on the Rise Mayoral Agenda
I will establish consensus with the city council and city manager on key immediate (six months to one year) and long-term (two- to four-year) goals and vision by
- Involving Portland leaders and organizations to address social issues, by promoting efficiencies and economic growth. With this support, lobby for these measures at City Hall, Augusta and Washington, D.C., to help the poorest Portlanders get a hand up toward self-sufficiency..
- Expanding support for my agenda by establishing networks with Governor LePage, regional and state leaders.
- Communicating frequently and effectively with neighborhood groups and the public. This ensures that my stated views are consistent with Portland’s local established goals and vision.
A Nation’s leading Mayor
Many of Portland’s problems reflect national urban issues, like poverty, transportation, and school spending. I will reach out in New England and national political networks to
- Work with national municipal and other critical association leaders, including local and state elected and appointed officials.
- Build mutual support efforts to enhance Portland’s state and national role.
- Compare Portland’s social programs and business policies with those of other cities in the nation. Use these comparisons to best to move Portland forward.
- Promote strategies and support on urban, state, and national news programs and conferences. The objective is to influence public opinion on anticipated investments and funding for Portland programs and policies.
Economic and Social Infrastructure
As part of Mayor’s agenda and national leadership, I will
- Build a network of local and national leaders to stand behind Portland’s social and economic programs, policies and strategies. This will position Portland as a unique leader for urban America.
- Market Portland with key business and public policy leaders, associations, and conferences. Gather ideas and support for Portland’s quality of life and economic strengths (arts, cuisine, tourism), especially waterfront and recreational advantages. By growing Portland’s economy we can expand the city’s tax and jobs base, leading to growth in revenue without tax increases.
- Advocate and oversee passage of City Hall economic strategies that address immediate and long-term social and business infrastructure goals, like safety and business development.
- Expand advocacy for new service programs, policies, and projects. This responds to Portland’s changing demographic, social and infrastructure needs.
